Was this estimate right?

Tariff rates current as of October 2026 — U.S. tariff policy is changing rapidly; verify before filing. The baseline tariff is the Section 301 "forced-labor" duty (10%/12.5%, effective Jul 2026) that replaced the invalidated IEEPA reciprocal tariffs — it's prefilled from the origin but editable, since per-country rates shift. Section 232 (steel/aluminum/copper, 50%) and AD/CVD (which can add 50–300%+) are product-specific and only applied if you add them above. Estimates use USITC HTS rates (general, FTA-preference & Column 2) and CBP fee formulas (MPF 0.3464%, min $34.58 / max $670.86; HMF 0.125% ocean). FTA eligibility & Section 301/232 list membership vary by product — confirm with a licensed customs broker and the primary sources: USITC HTS, USTR, Commerce AD/CVD, Federal Register.

How U.S. import duty & landed cost work

How do I calculate the landed cost of a U.S. import?

Landed cost = customs value + base import duty (the HTS tariff rate × value) + any Section 301 tariff on Chinese goods + the Section 301 "forced-labor" baseline tariff (10%/12.5%, effective July 2026) + any Section 232 tariff on steel/aluminum/copper content + any AD/CVD + CBP fees (the Merchandise Processing Fee, and the Harbor Maintenance Fee on ocean shipments) + freight and insurance. ShipSeeker estimates all of these from an HTS code, customs value and country of origin.

What is the Section 301 tariff?

Section 301 is an additional U.S. tariff on many goods from China — typically +25% (Lists 1–3) or +7.5% (List 4A) on top of the normal HTS duty rate. Separately, a Section 301 "forced-labor" baseline duty of 10% or 12.5% has applied to imports from ~60 economies since July 2026 (replacing the reciprocal tariffs struck down in early 2026).

What are the MPF and HMF fees?

The Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF) is 0.3464% of customs value, with a minimum of $34.58 and a maximum of $670.86 per entry (CBP FY2027 rates, effective October 2026). The Harbor Maintenance Fee (HMF) is 0.125% of customs value on ocean shipments. Both are charged once per customs entry.

Is this import-duty estimate legally binding?

No. It is an estimate for planning and excludes anti-dumping/countervailing (AD/CVD) duties. Confirm the tariff classification and rate with a licensed customs broker.
