Frequently asked questions
When are U.S. import duties due?
Duties are generally owed when the goods enter the U.S. (at the time of entry/release), not when you sell them — which is why large tariff bills can create a cash-flow squeeze. This tool projects that outlay by month across your shipments.
How is each shipment's duty calculated?
Customs value × the HTS rate, plus any Section 301 (China), the forced-labor baseline, and CBP fees (MPF, and HMF on ocean) — the same engine as the ShipSeeker landed-cost calculator. Section 232 and AD/CVD are not auto-applied here.
Planning estimate of duty owed at entry (customs value × HTS rate + Section 301 + baseline + MPF/HMF). Excludes Section 232 & AD/CVD, freight, and any deferral/periodic-statement timing with CBP. Not legal, tax or customs advice — confirm with a licensed customs broker. Sources: USITC HTS, CBP.
